The Jimbo That Was, Is No More!

Jimbo Fisher is a good college football coach. As a head coach he ranks fourth amongst active head coaches (minimum five years), with a .741 winning percentage, a 8-2 bowl record, and two national championships to his name. He’s well renowned across the college football landscape, whether it’s for his reputation as an elite recruiter, or having the moniker as the quarterback whisperer, coaching the likes of Jamarcus Russell, Christian Ponder, EJ Emanuel and Jameis Winston, who were all 1st round draft picks.

With that being said, Jimbo’s superlatives and accolades from his past should not overshadow, nor excuse the below average coaching job he’s currently displaying. If we analyze and consider the situation he put himself in at A&M, along with his track record, many will say he should’ve been closer to having A&M near the top of the SEC west, as well as on the verge of becoming a legitimate playoff contender in year 5.

When you look at his recruiting classes since arriving in College Station in 2018, they have all been ranked inside the top 10 nationally. The 2022 class in particular has garnered the most attention by breaking a record featuring seven five-stars, with an unmatched composite score of 328.59 according to 247sports. Then you take into consideration the fact that Texas A&M practically opened up the bank for him, making him one of the highest paid head coaches in the game (10-year $95 million). Along with providing him with the financial backing to be a major player in the new world order we now know as N.I.L, with a “rumored” 25–30-million-dollar budget set aside strictly for recruiting, in which he has vehemently denounced on numerous occasions. And to top it off, he is afforded the second-best facility in the nation according to 247sports behind Oregon. Yes, NIKE!!!!! Which cost a whomping $485 million.

So, what’s the issue? He has the players, the facilities, and a admin that’s willing to fund any and everything to ensure success. What is it?

Its Jimbo!!! Jimbo Fisher has gotten to a point to where he is unwilling to evolve with the game. Josh Pate compared his offense to an expired jug of milk; he went on to say it’s been expired since 2014 and every Saturday he pulls it out the refrigerator and make us chug it every week. At what point does A&M stop chugging the same ole 2014 milk and demand for Jimbo to update his offense. I personally think an ultimatum will be given to Jimbo during this upcoming offseason, find a good young offensive mind to call plays or find the door. It’s time for him to assume the CEO coach role.

He is beyond making any more demands moving forward . He has been given everything he’s asked for to succeed . Some of the very things he himself claims he wasn’t giving to him at FSU, and he has had ample amount of time to deliver a consistent, good product each year.

Now it’s time for the people that write the checks to make the demands. His team’s lack discipline, and motivation. His play calling is vanilla and predictable. His mouth writes checks that his teams can’t cash, and with no generational QB/RB to save him, he looks average.

Jimbo Fisher was a good coach. But what was has nothing to do with what is, if he isn’t willing to change.
