Culture: one of the loudest words in the world of sports. College football is no exception, with culture being a defining element in a team's success. Often, when we hear that a team is successful it is attributed to culture. This sets the tone and is passed from recruiting class to recruiting class. When a coach doesn't perform well, we hear that this key component was lacking sound establishment and as a result, a necessary change is made.
Deion Sanders, now more known as Coach Prime, is changing the game in Boulder. The Colorado Buffalos have shocked the college football world now 3-0 heading into a high-profile game at Oregon.
Coach Prime has erased everything we knew about the culture at Colorado and has established one of his own.
Most would say it takes years to establish a good culture and have the proper buy-in. On that same token, some would also say that Colorado wouldn't have a good culture because of the amount of transfers that came into the program.
Were these sentiments true?
It would appear not.
Behind this high-profile coach, Boulder is the face of the college football world right now.
The culture we are seeing at Colorado is unique and never before seen at this level. The USC teams of the early 2000s had plenty of stars around the team, attending practices and games but the stark difference with this team is Coach Prime is just as big of a star and does not shy away from it.
It is his confidence that the team plays with and what has made them successful with an undefeated record thus far.
The culture Prime has developed here is one of winning relentlessly above all else.
Prime has shown to be an exceptional leader of men in his nontraditional ways. Although his unique practices have made some uncomfortable outside of the locker room, inside of it, is a stronger team.
One noticeable quality that one could believe has the greatest impact; is that Prime continues to be himself unapologetically. We have never seen anything like this in college football and that’s because we have never had a coach like Prime.
Never backing down from a moment and never afraid to speak his mind, Prime and the Buffs look to continue to break the mold of college football.
